Before we start manufacturing products on a customer's order, a structure is created for each product in the production control system. The structure defines, among other things, the necessary measurements and tests that must be carried out in order to meet the conformity of the product.
The measurement and testing needs are determined in accordance with the customer's requirements, but also on the basis of the processes used at Mectalent. Such processes include, for example, quality assurance inspections, measurements and statistical analysis.
The conformity of products is monitored at several stages of manufacture by measuring, testing, and by visual inspections.
The measurement is guided by the product specification provided by the customer as well as the product-specific measurement, testing and inspection instructions. Mectalent's monitoring and measurement process includes sample-based inspections and 100% inspections in compliance with the requirements or specific process of the customer.
Various legislative requirements have been imposed on products. They must either be safe and reliable to use in general or meet certain minimum requirements.
The requirements are laid down in EU directives, regulations and decisions, as well as in national law. Product-specific legislation defines the responsibilities of the manufacturer, importer and distributor in ensuring the conformity of the product.
Standards also play an important role in the design and manufacture of products, in testing them, ensuring safety, and assessing conformity.
The caliper and micrometer are the most commonly used measuring devices in the machining plant. The structural accuracy of the caliper is 0.01 mm, and micrometer reading accuracy is 0.001 mm. Go/no-go gauges are often used in the quality control of large series. Go/no-go gauges are simple tools used to measure a piece on an accepted/rejected basis to, e.g., measure a hole or thread.
Dial gauges are used to check the eccentricity, throw and straightness of the piece. They have a reading accuracy of 0.01 mm.
A 2-point internal micrometer is used to measure holes. The device can be used to detect the cone property and ovalness of the holes. The reading accuracy of the measuring device is 0.01 mm.
The surface roughness of the component may be verified either by means of a surface roughness measuring device or by reference pieces.
Measuring machines can be used to measure tolerances of 0.001 mm. Mectalent uses a profile projector and a CMM to verify highly accurate tolerances.
The measurement or inspection record is used to monitor the homogeneity of the parts. For example, parts with particularly precise tolerances are measured in accordance with the instructions provided by the customer which define the nominal dimensions of the component and the batch sample. The measurement events are recorded in the measurement or inspection record, which is delivered with the parts to the customer.
